Switzerland is not in the EU, so it is not covered by EU roaming rules. A regional Europe plan may or may not include Switzerland — check the plan's country list before you buy. Note too that Swiss trains and roads pass through Liechtenstein and along the Italian, French, German and Austrian border areas, where the phone may register on a neighbouring network.

When you land
Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the main gateway: install and scan the profile at home over your own Wi-Fi, then turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM once you land and expect to register on Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt within a minute or two. If you fly into Geneva (GVA), note that the airport straddles the Swiss-French border and its French sector is where many ski transfers depart, so your phone may briefly show a French network there.

Common questions

Does an eSIM work in Switzerland?
Yes. Switzerland has no restriction on foreign travel eSIMs, and the profile registers on Swisscom, Sunrise or Salt as a roaming guest. Your handset must be eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. The one thing to verify is that your plan actually lists Switzerland, since it sits outside the EU roaming area.
Is Switzerland included in a Europe regional plan?
Not automatically. Switzerland is not an EU member and is not covered by EU roaming rules, so some regional Europe plans include it and others stop at the border. This is the single most common Swiss surprise. Read the country list on the plan itself rather than assuming that geographic Europe means covered.
Will it work on arrival at Zurich Airport?
It should connect within a minute or two of leaving airplane mode. Install the profile at home over Wi-Fi before you fly, then turn Data Roaming on for the eSIM after landing. Zurich Airport also sits directly on the S-Bahn network, so you can be online before you reach the platform.
